DRUMMONDVILLE | Prime Minister François Legault is surprised at the level of dissatisfaction of Quebecers with the environmental record of his government, a situation which is explained, among other things, according to him, by the place occupied by the pandemic for two years.

A new Léger poll published in our pages on Saturday reveals that one in two voters is dissatisfied with the environmental record of the Legault government.
The voters of the Coalition avenir Québec also criticize their government’s record in this area: a quarter of them admit to being dissatisfied.
“It’s a bit surprising,” reacted the chief caquiste François Legault, Saturday morning, on his arrival at the national convention of his party, which is being held in Drummondville this weekend, under high police security.
“It is certain that (for two years) the pandemic has taken up a lot of space,” observed Mr. Legault.
However, according to him, “the results are there” with regard to the actions taken by his government on the environmental plan. As an example, he points to the historic contract concluded by Hydro-Québec, which will supply New York with hydroelectricity and the “record orders for electric buses” such as those of Lion Electric.
A communication challenge
“It’s a matter of perception. In concrete terms, if we look at the result, if we look at the results, we have every reason to be very proud of this result, ”said the Minister of the Environment, Benoit Charette, in the same vein.
“We have an election campaign that will help us talk about this record,” said Minister Charette, arguing that his department’s budget has doubled since the CAQ came to power.
“There are certainly communication efforts to be made,” commented in turn Deputy Premier Geneviève Guilbault, stressing that the CAQ will have new proposals to make during the election campaign.
