Two people died and another was seriously injured early Wednesday morning in a crash near Cocoa, troopers say.
Ryan Dolan, 27, of Cocoa was driving a 2017 Ford Explorer south on Grissom Parkway approaching Canaveral Groves Boulevard about 12:15 a.m., when the vehicle crashed head-on into a Jeep, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
State troopers said the Jeep sport utility vehicle was stopped in the left turn lane facing north on Grissom Parkway at the intersection.
As Dolan approached, he drove around another vehicle that was stopped at a red light, went through the intersection and struck the Jeep, according to FHP.
Dolan and his passenger William Schuster, 31, of Rockledge, died at the scene, troopers said. Another passenger, 29-year-old Amber Knudson, of Cocoa, was taken to Wuesthoff Medical Center-Rockledge with minor injuries.
Emergency medical crews also took the Jeep’s driver, 18-year-old Cheyenne Garrett of Cocoa, to Holmes Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Her passenger, 15-year-old Jade Beninger of Cocoa, was taken to the hospital with minor injures, according to FHP.
Troopers said neither driver was wearing a seat belt. Schuster also wasn’t buckled in, according to FHP.
Troopers remained at the intersection for several hours Wednesday investigating.
