BAYONNE — A fire on Broadway displaced nine residents today, according to Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver.

Firefighters responded to a call of smoke coming out of a building at 806 Broadway and found a fire within the rear wall of the second floor of the building, according to Weaver.

Firefighters stretched two hose lines into the building and prevented the fire from reaching the top floor. They were then able to dose the blaze within a half hour, Weaver said.

“As a result of the operations of the firefighters on the scene, the fire was quickly contained and extinguished,” Weaver said.

The nine residents are temporarily displaced from the building and are receiving assistance from the  Red Cross, Weaver said.

There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is accidental and remains under investigation.
