CAPE MAY — A former teacher who also served as a Scoutmaster was sentenced Thursday to a year in jail for criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child, The Press of Atlantic City reported.

Frank L. “Sandy” Thomson was arrested in July 2015 after buying expensive gifts for an 11-year-old boy in an attempt to obtain sexual favors, authorities said. An investigation into that allegation revealed that Thomson inappropriately touched another young boy several years ago.

Joseph Rodgers, Thomson’s attorney, said in court his client was “genuinely remorseful” for his crimes.

Thomson, who was 68 at the time of his arrest, was an assistant Scoutmaster for a West Cap May troop and had worked as a teacher at a Philadelphia private school, Chestnut Hill Academy, from 1972 until 1998.

Thomson was also treasurer of the Corinthian Yacht Club in Cape May, where he met his 11-year-old victim.
