The German industrial production price index registered a 4.2% drop in October compared to the previous month, which represents the first monthly drop since May 2020, according to data published by Destatis , the country’s federal statistical office.
Compared to the same month last year, producer prices in Germany increased by 34.5%, compared to a record year-on-year increase of 45.8% in the months of September and August.
In October, energy prices increased an average of 85.6% compared to 2021 due to strong increases in the price of natural gas and electricity, although in relation to September 2022, energy prices fell by an average of 10.4%, thanks to the decrease in the prices of electricity and natural gas.
Thus, when energy prices are excluded, producer prices increased by 13.7% in October 2021. Compared to September, the data without energy registered an increase of 0.4%.
On the other hand, the prices of non-durable consumer goods increased by 19% year-on-year and increased by 1.1% in relation to the month of September 2022. Specifically, food prices increased by 25.1% annually.
The prices of intermediate goods increased by 15.9% in October 2022 compared to the previous year, while compared to September 2022, the increase was 0.1%.
In turn, the cost of durable consumer goods increased by 11.3% year-on-year, mainly due to the evolution of furniture prices (13.4%), while capital goods became more expensive by 7.8 % Over the previous year.
