The former world number 1 defeated American Amanda Anisimova in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
“It’s great to be back in the semi-finals, I’m very emotional,” admitted the 30-year-old who will try to qualify for her second Major final on grass on Thursday by facing Australian Ajla Tomljanovic (44th) or the Kazakh Elena Rybakina (23rd).
“I played against a very strong opponent today, she could have blown the balls at the end,” she added.
However, everything went too fast for the American, completely overwhelmed, who could only put her head in her towel at 4-1 in the second set.
The games rolled in Halep’s favor with Anisimova seemingly unable to stem the tide.
But lost for lost, trailing 5-2 in the second set, Anisimova let go of all her shots and came back to 5-4, forcing the Romanian to serve a second time for the match.
Again, Anisimova looked able to return Aleppo’s service when she led 40-0, but the Romanian then fielded five points in a row and clinched their ticket to the last four.
“I had to stay solid on my legs and they were the ones that helped me today. I also needed my service. Everything worked well and I finished well”, analyzed Halep.
