The brazilian ministry of Health announced on Monday that it would maintain its recommendation of using hydroxychloroquine to treat the new coronavirus, despite the decision of the world health Organization (WHO), to temporarily suspend the clinical trials with this drug as a precautionary measure.

Bolsonaro pressure

Under pressure from president Jair Bolsonaro, the ministry of Health of Brazil, the country most severely affected by the coronavirus in Latin America, has published last week a document that extended the recommendations for use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, including mild cases of Covid-19 despite the lack of conclusive evidence of its effectiveness.
