The clothing giant H&M makes a (small) gesture to the amazon rain forest, which was ravaged this summer by the flames. Following the footsteps of several other well-known brands of shoes or clothing, such as Timberland, the North Face, or Kipling, the Swedish group has announced a temporarily ban the use of leather came from Brazil. The moratorium will continue as long as it has not received the assurance that “the production of leather does not contribute to environmental damage in the Amazon”, says H&M. The deforestation, sometimes made for the benefit of the cattle grazing, is indeed partly responsible for the start of fires. All the brands of the clothing giant is concerned, the brand’s eponymous H&M and Cos, passing by Weekday or market developers. The group conceded, however, that the leather that he buys in Brazil represents only a very small part of the one he uses, the latter coming mainly from Europe.

But environmental issues are a subject of importance to the customers of these companies, the push to increase green initiatives. Thus, LVMH announced that he was going to support the fight against the fires in the Amazon to the tune of 10 million euros. H&M, which is, for example, set a goal of use in 2030, that sustainable materials (such as cotton) or recycled, having some success in this way. The NGO WWF ranks the group among the most “ambitious” in the matter.
