MADRID, 16 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Last March, the sale and purchase of homes registered a decline of 19.3% compared to the same month in 2023, up to a total of 44,878 operations, as reported this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With the fall in March, home sales return to negative rates after the 5.8% rebound that had been recorded in February and which put an end to a year of consecutive year-on-year declines.

The year-on-year decrease in home sales in March has been due to both the drop in transactions on new apartments, which decreased by 14% year-on-year, to 8,917, and those carried out on used homes. These decreased by 20.5% year-on-year in March, to 35,961 operations.

93% of the homes transferred by sale in March were free homes and 7% were protected. In total, the purchase and sale of free homes fell by 18.5% year-on-year, to 41,741 transactions, while the purchase and sale of subsidized homes fell by 28.8%, to a total of 3,137 transactions.

In an inter-monthly rate (March over February), the sale and purchase of homes fell by 15%, while in the first three months of 2024 it has reduced by 5.6%, with an increase of 3% in the case of new homes and a decline of 7.6% in used homes.
