MADRID, Nov. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) – The General Industrial Production Index (IPI) fell 4.1% year-on-year last September, a rate four tenths lower than that of August, as reported this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
With the fall in September, industrial production has had four months of negative interannual rates after the declines of 1.7%, 2.1% and 3.6% registered in June, July and August, respectively.
The production of the energy industry was the one that fell the most in the ninth month of the year, with a year-on-year decrease of 10.4%, followed by durable consumer goods (-7.5%); non-durable consumer goods (-6.6%) and intermediate goods (-1.7%), while that of capital goods increased by 1.2%.
By branches of activity, those that cut their production the most in an interannual rate were clothing manufacturing (-39.4%), beverage manufacturing (-19.9%) and the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (-12.9%). The greatest increases, on the other hand, occurred in other extractive industries (34.9%).
Corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, industrial production fell 1.4% in September compared to the same month in 2022, a rate 1.9 points higher than that of August.
ONLY THE CANARY ISLANDS AND CASTILLA Y LEÓN RAISE THE PRODUCTION OF THEIR INDUSTRY
Industrial production fell in September in 15 autonomous communities in an interannual rate and only increased in the Canary Islands and Castilla y León, with advances of 2.6% and 0.2%, respectively.
The largest decreases were recorded in the Balearic Islands (-13.5%), La Rioja (-11.3%), Cantabria (-9.5%) and Murcia (-8.9%).
The most moderate falls in industrial production in September occurred in Aragón (-0.7%), Extremadura (-0.9%) and Asturias (-1%).
INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION INCREASES 1.1% IN THE MONTH
In monthly terms (September over August) and within the corrected series, industrial production increased in the ninth month of the year by 1.1%, a rate 1.8 points higher than that observed in August.
By sectors, production increased in September at a monthly rate in capital goods (3.6%), durable consumer goods (3.3%) and intermediate goods (3.1%), while it decreased in energy (- 2.7%) and non-durable consumer goods (-0.3%).
By activities, the largest increases in production compared to the previous month were carried out by the tobacco industry (17%); the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products (12.7%), and metallurgy (12.4%).
On the contrary, the most pronounced declines in production occurred in the manufacture of clothing (-18.6%), the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (-5.1%) and manufacturing of beverages (-3.2%).
