The General Industrial Production Index (IPI) fell by 1.4% year-on-year last June, a rate 1.4 points lower than that of May, as reported this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
With the drop in June, industrial production returned to negative interannual rates after having registered an increase of 0.2% in May.
The production of the energy industry was the one that fell the most in the sixth month of the year, with a year-on-year decrease of 9.5%. They are followed by durable consumer goods (-3.3%) and intermediate goods (-3.1%), while capital goods and non-durable consumer goods increased by 4.6% and 1.7 %, respectively.
Adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, industrial production fell 3% in June compared to the same month of the previous year, a rate 2.4 points lower than that of May.
In monthly terms (June over May), industrial production decreased by 1%, a rate 1.5 points lower than that observed in the fifth month of the year.
