This is what the ESPN network said on Tuesday. The 63-year-old American has also worked for the chain since his contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets expired at the end of the 2020-2021 season.
The name of Tortorella is added to that of Barry Trotz as a possible successor to Alain Vigneault, fired in December during the season. Assuming the interim, Mike Yeo had not been retained at the helm of the club.
Tortorella has coached four NHL teams, including the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks and Jackets. He showed a record of 673-541-37-132, so he ranks 13th in history for the number of games steered (1,383) and 14th in wins.
Renowned for his outspokenness, he twice won the Jack-Adams trophy, awarded to the instructor of the year, in 2004 and in 2017.
