Unlike past years, illumi will not be turning off its lights this summer.
For the first time since its inauguration in Laval, illumi will present to the public its light installations, and some festive novelties, for a good part of the warm season.
For the occasion, the course will be slightly modified and will benefit from the addition of terrace spaces which “should make a fairly significant difference in the course”, underlined Monday Normand Latourelle, founding president and artistic director of Cavalia and illuminated.
A first terrace area will be added around and under the large “tree”, where a bar area has already been installed for some time. Many glowing geometric “trees” will also be added nearby. A second space-terrace will be installed on the most elevated portion of the site, which the creator of illumi kindly calls “Mont Laval”.
With an elevation of 20 meters, this section will be able to accommodate 400 people and will offer a breathtaking view of all the light installations bordered by Highway 15. Projections all in light and music will also be presented to users of the observatory every half hour. To this end, the painting of the ocean, a space where there are hundreds of thousands of pixels, will become the scene of a firework of lights, explained Mr. Latourelle to the QMI Agency.
This portion of the land is not open to the public in winter due to the drier weather conditions. “Summer is going to be extraordinary, the 400 people will be able to attend a musical and luminous choreography. The entire site will turn on and off on the musical programming,” said the creator of illumi.
The third space, called “Le bal des ballons”, will be neither more nor less than a pool of giant balls embellished with musical illuminations. Tens of thousands of beach balls will be blown up and piled up in a tent, so that young and old can have fun, said Normand Latourelle.
Really the extension of this third season will have the appearance of celebration and lightness, he recalled. In addition to the new facilities, the entire site will be open to the public, including the car route, which will remain accessible. Ticket prices will also be lowered this summer.
“I wanted to make holiday prices for everyone. […] To try to reach more students and to ensure that it will not cost more to go to illumi than to go to the cinema. It was important for me to make illumi accessible to as many people as possible,” said the artistic director.
For the inauguration of the third season, last November, 80% of the tables had been changed compared to the previous edition. With the summer extension, all of the tables now differ from the first edition presented in 2020.
This summer extension will be presented in Laval from June 22 to August 6.
This fall, starting September 28, illumi, which intends to develop new markets in the coming years, will set up in Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto, with light installations that have already been presented in Laval.
