Life without parole is the sentence for a 38-year-old man convicted of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her 10-year-old daughter in a western Wisconsin home before setting the house ablaze.
Cristian D. Nunez, of New Richmond, was sentenced Monday in St. Croix County Circuit Court in Hudson for the double murder on Sept. 2, 2015.
The bodies of Courtney L. Bradford, 30, and her daughter, 10-year-old Jasmine, were found in the fire-damaged New Richmond residence in the 1400 block of Hallewood Boulevard. Courtney Bradford was found on an upstairs floor, and Jasmine was located in the basement.
Prosecutors alleged that Nunez was jealous that Courtney Bradford had been dating other men.
Nunez soon was arrested in El Paso, Texas, and returned to Wisconsin for prosecution. A jury convicted him on Dec. 20 of two counts of first-degree murder and arson.
Courtney Bradford bled to death from more than 30 stab wounds, and Jasmine’s cause of death was listed by the medical examiner as “possible asphyxia,” but the girl also suffered stab wounds and had injuries consistent with a sexual assault.
