Can bathroom tile make you fall in love with a house? The green tile in this Monticello Park cottage sure sealed the deal for Katrina Cook when she was house shopping.

Cook, an educator and artist who makes books by hand, mostly journals, is one of the participants in the 10th Annual On and Off Fredericksburg Road Studio Tour organized by Bihl Haus Arts Feb. 18 and 19. More than 60 artists will open their studios in six neighborhoods: Alta Vista, Beacon Hill, Keystone, Jefferson, Monticello Park and Woodlawn Lake.

Cook’s studio features an old book press sits atop a thread cabinet in a corner. On the wall is a huge Mesquite Trail Drivers sign from a neighbor’s garage that was being cleared. A vintage typewriter rests on top of a chest. An upright piano, a family piece, anchors one end of the studio.
