Chef Nico Abello is killing it at Michelin-starred L’Appart, a cozy restaurant set up like a Parisian apartment. It’s hidden behind a thick door at the back of Le District food court, at 225 Liberty St.
Abello has created a fun menu of classic French dishes (he got his start in France, and in New York with chef Daniel Boulud at Daniel) with a modern twist.
The Valentine’s Day menu, offered on Saturday, Feb. 11, as well as the big day itself, is a five-course, prix fixe menu that’s $175 a person. There’s an optional champagne-by-the-glass pairing for $95 and artisanal, alcohol-free offerings for $35 to accompany each course.
Abello tells us he cooks without recipes, “a la minute,” to stay inspired. The Valentine’s Day dishes are high on storied aphrodisiacs: oysters, ginseng, saffron, ginger and chocolate.
Dining options include lobster with avocado and ginseng, and black sea bass with celery and star anise, with the signature champagne punch made with Parisian gin and house-made ginger beer and rosemary.
