Hotel guests at the renowned Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne, Switzerland got to experience a moment of magic this season with the installation of two lakeside igloos.
Nestled in the hotel’s four-hectare private garden, the transparent igloos offered guests a luxurious outdoor extension of their hotel room and a unique Swiss winter experience while enjoying views of Lake Geneva and the distant snow-capped Alps.
Ensconced in these cozy hideaways, people enjoyed personal service and classic Swiss winter treats, including mulled wine, oysters, fondue, raclette, Valais dried meat and sweet cakes. Each igloo could host up to eight people for tea time and seasonal delicacies, with the option to reserve the entire space for $650 (Canadian) per hour.
The chalet-chic retreats were created by a team of designers from the Swiss décor website Chic Cham in collaboration with Espaces Contemporains magazine. People chose between a classic alpine style with wooden elements and red and green accents, or a more modern esthetic, decorated with frosted silver and gold details.
A new winter tradition at the Beau-Rivage Palace, the igloos enhanced the hotel’s seasonal program and calendar of events, which transform the grounds into a winter wonderland. Hopefully they’ll be back next season.
Meanwhile, winter guests can relish in its Nordic atmosphere with an ice skating rink, wood burners and warm blankets on the Lobby Lounge’s outdoor terrace, skating lessons and Sunday afternoon tea.
The hotel just renovated its La Terrasse restaurant and 100 guestrooms and suites, and launched a new signature bar serving bespoke cocktails. It has two tennis courts and the award-winning Cinq Mondes Spa with a hot tub, a fitness room, nine treatment rooms, and indoor and outdoor infinity pools. The property’s Michelin-starred restaurant, Anne-Sophie Pic, also features France’s only female chef with three Michelin stars.
