GC: While we certainly couldn’t pick a favorite, watching Sandra Bullock accept her Academy Award in 2010 wearing Marchesa was exhilarating. Renée Zellweger wearing a red, sari-inspired Marchesa dress to the “Bridget Jones” premiere in 2004 was our first big red-carpet moment, so that will always stay with us.
What trends do you expect to see at this year’s Oscars?
KC: We’re most excited to see embellishments and sparkle — they always make a statement.
What’s your advice for anyone who’s walking the red carpet for the first time?
KC: A dress should never impose; it should complement its wearer. Don’t let seasonal trends dictate your look. Pick a silhouette — whether a dress, separates or jumpsuit — that’s figure-flattering.
What’s your own prep routine before an awards show?
GC: It’s always a whirlwind going from fitting to fitting. Our primary focus is making sure the person we’re dressing feels fantastic in their look. It isn’t until a few hours before a show that we’re able to pick our own dresses and go into hair and makeup.
What’s the worst red-carpet faux pas?
KC: Picking a dress you don’t feel comfortable in! How can you feel beautiful and confident if you’re not comfortable in what you’re wearing?
