The California Department of Motor Vehicles branch office in Palmdale is closing Friday. Now the closest DMV facility for Palmdale residents to take care of their driver’s licenses and car registration services is a new and improved Lancaster location.

The Palmdale office at 2260 East Palmdale Blvd., will shut its doors at noon Friday.

The Lancaster field office, located at 721 W. Ave. L-6, opened Monday. A previous Lancaster facility closed Jan. 30.

The Lancaster location at 28,878-square-feet dwarfs the Palmdale space, which measured 4,400 square feet.

“Everything has been running smoothly,” DMV spokeswoman Cristina Valdivia said of the new office. “It’s a really large facility.”

The Lancaster office has a larger lobby, additional work stations, more customer parking and two driver safety hearing officers, who preside over driver safety administration hearings.

Additionally, officials said many online services are available at www.dmv.ca.gov.
