There’d be almost more of m already. The day after his arrival in French pharmacies, old formula Levothyrox would be in “exhaustion” according to a communiqué of Federation of Pharmaceutical Trade Unions of France (FSPF). On Tuesday, president of Federation Philippe Gaertner contacted office of Minister of Health who informed him “that no resupply of wholesalers dispatchers-responsible for supplying pharmacies with medicines-is foreseen”.
The 22,000 French dispensaries began, on Monday 2 October, to issue old formulation of Levothyrox, marketed under name of Euthyrox. As early as June, patients had mobilized against new Levothyrox formula, causing adverse effects (heart rate disorders, muscle cramps, intestinal problems, headaches, dizziness, etc.). In Face of pressure, Minister of Health, Agnes Buzyn, announced on 15 September return of old formula.
Six boxes per pharmacy
A total of 130,000 boxes of Euthyrox from Germany, a little less than six boxes per pharmacy, were sent to France. To manage supply, health authorities requested that only patients with an order prescribed after 14 September and labelled “Euthyrox” be able to obtain Levothyrox old formula (or Euthyrox).
However, according to communiqué of Federation of Pharmacy Pharmacists, in face of craze, prescriptions established after 14 September will not all be fulfilled. Patients who have not been able to obtain treatment now have no choice but to return to ir doctor once more to obtain prescription of an alternative specialty, that is, from second half of October, drug «L-Thyroxin Henning ® tablet scored from Sanofi laboratory.»
