This million-dollar house has a ‘50s diner inside

You could look at the exterior of this English Tudor home — with details including a turret over the entry, a big brick façade and leaded windows — and expect the 5,095-square-foot property to transport you to ye olden days.

But in reality, the South Orange, NJ, home features some fun modern inclusions, including a fully outfitted retro-chic diner and a cinema. The listing, first reported by Curbed, is on the market for $1.18 million.

Located at 441 Overhill Road, about 20 miles from Midtown, this seven-bedroom home sports some stately classic features, such as a sweeping marble staircase and a fireplace. But old meets new in the all-white chef’s kitchen with stainless-steel fittings and, well, that lower-level eatery and theater.

Decorated in fun ’50s style, the in-house restaurant is lined with black- and white-checkered flooring, wall mirrors, a small kitchen space with metallic cabinetry and vintage lighting above. Red banquette seats even surround a small white table, topped with vintage straw, napkin and sugar holders.

Toward the back, there’s a neon sign that appears to say, “The Doo Wop Diner.”

Just off the diner’s entry — in an area floored by star-print carpet — is the entrance to the home theater, marked by a lit sign that proclaims “Cinema.” Off to its side is a faux box office with a window and small counter. But step inside, through the red curtains, and there are plush seats with cup holders facing a big screen — all ensconced in surround sound.
