Emmanuel Macron hailed Thursday for his platinum jubilee the “dedication” of Queen Elizabeth II in favor of the “unwavering friendship” between France and the United Kingdom, and expressed his gratitude to this “so close ally”.
“You are the golden thread that binds our two countries, proof of the unwavering friendship between our nations,” wrote the French president in a message addressed to the sovereign. “You have been a constant presence and source of wisdom to the leaders of our two countries.”
“You are our friend, our close ally, our example of service to others. To celebrate you today is to celebrate the sincere and deep friendship that unites our two countries and your devotion to serve it,” added the Head of State. “Your Majesty, I have the privilege of extending to You, on behalf of the French people, my most sincere congratulations on Your platinum jubilee.”
Since a first State visit to France at the end of the Second World War, “your devotion to our alliance and our friendship has remained and has helped to build the confidence which has brought freedom and prosperity to our continent”, he also claimed.
The President of the Republic praised in particular the commitment during this conflict of the British fighters “for the freedom which we enjoy today”.
“You have shared our joys and noted the deep affection and admiration that the people of France have for you”, he greeted, stressing that France is “grateful” to the queen for her “courage”.
The world will have its eyes fixed on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on Thursday, Elizabeth II to launch the festivities of her 70 years on the throne, an unprecedented longevity.
