MALIBU — A stretch of Decker Road in Malibu that has been closed for a week for emergency storm repairs will remain blocked until next Monday, Caltrans officials said today.
The stretch of Decker about one mile north of Pacific Coast Highway closed at 6 a.m. Jan. 31 and was first expected to reopen last Friday, but it was then extended until Tuesday morning.
But with rain slowing the work and more material still needing to be removed from hillsides, Caltrans officials said the closure is being extended until 6 a.m. Monday.
Following the full closure, only one lane of traffic will be available on Decker between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on most days through March.
A Caltrans contractor is removing loose rocks and other unstable material from roadside slopes, and installing wire mesh anchored with rock bolts to secure the hillside.
Lengthy traffic delays are anticipated during the work, and Caltrans advised motorists to plan ahead and take other routes.
