NEPTUNE TWP. — One man was hit with gunfire in a drive-by shooting Saturday night near the border of Asbury Park, authorities said.

The man, who was not identified, survived a gunshot wound to his chest and was treated at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said in a statement.

The shooting happened shortly before 10 p.m. in the area of Myrtle and Stratford avenues.

Gramiccioni said a sport utility vehicle pulled up behind two men walking on the street and the people inside the SUV fired shots at the men. The two men then ran away from the vehicle, Gramiccioni said.

Asbury Park police officers located the wounded man near the scene of the shooting, Gramiccioni said.

Authorities have not arrested anyone.

Gramiccioni asked anyone with information to call Detective Adam Mendes of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 1-800-533-7443 or Neptune police Detective Sgt. Les Borges at 732-988-8000.

Authorities said anonymous tips can also be submitted to Monmouth County Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-671-4400, texting “MONMOUTH” plus the tip to 274637 or send an email through the crime stoppers’ website.

Monmouth County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of criminals and fugitives, authorities said.
