WAYNE — A&P paid $1.2 million in January to a man who fell on a wet floor in the supermarket’s Valley Road store, the New Jersey Law Journal reported.

Adi Memeti sued the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. claiming the company failed to clean up a wet floor at an entrance to the Wayne market.

Memeti suffered spinal injuries that required surgery, said his attorney, Damon Vespi of the Vespi Law Firm in Totowa. He’s been unable to work as a sports photographer because of his injuries.

After a delay due to its bankruptcy, A&P paid the settlement Jan. 2.

Montvale-based A&P filed for bankruptcy in July 2015, closing and selling off the 90 stores it owned in the state. The Valley Road store will become a natural food market, according to Urstadt Biddle, the leasing agent for the building, making it part of a mix of independent and ethnic markets that have snapped up the vacant stores.
