Maude-Aimée Leblanc will only have passed the Bank of Hope LPGA tournament, presented in Las Vegas, she who was eliminated at the end of the group stage on Friday.
The Quebecer lost by a hole against the South African Ashleigh Buhai, in her last duel of the preliminary phase. She thus concluded this portion of the competition with a draw and two defeats. Only the first of each of the 16 groups reached the knockout matches, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
In her last duel, Leblanc and her rival traded the lead a grand total of five times. The representative of the maple leaf had even taken the lead by two holes by taking the honors of the 14th, but the South African came back from behind by winning the 15th and the 16th, before making a point of honor to her day by winning the 18th.
Leblanc (0-2-1) thus has the same record as South Korean Jeongeun Lee6, with whom she had played a draw on Wednesday, while Buhai (2-0-1) and Moriya Jutanugarn (2-0- 1) concluded at the top of Group 9.
No other Canadians participated in this event.
PGA: more congestion at the top
On the PGA side, the second round of the Charles Schwab Tournament reduced the group of leaders, but no golfer distinguished himself enough to take first place alone after 36 holes.
Americans Beau Hossler and Scottie Scheffler, both in the group of eight players who finished the first round with a score of 66 (-4), did enough to stay at the top of the standings. By virtue of a second round of 65 (-5) each, they share the lead with their compatriot Scott Stallings, who for his part hit the white object 64 (-6) times during the second round.
Patrick Reed, also in the leading group after 18 holes, will be their main pursuer at the start of the third round, he who is a thin shot behind.
Canadian Nick Taylor, also among the leading group after the first round, could not do better than to deliver a second card of 71 (1). With a score of 137 (-3), he shares the 23rd echelon with five opponents, including the only other representative of the maple leaf in the running at this event, Adam Svensson.
