A vehicle was reduced to a pile of scrap metal by an arson fire Thursday evening in the Sud-Ouest borough of Montreal.
Montreal police were called around 11 p.m. to a burning vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment building near the intersection of Notre-Dame Ouest and Saint-Rémi streets.
When the police arrived on the scene, the firefighters were already bringing the fire under control, but the vehicle is a total loss, said Caroline Chèvrefils of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal.
No incendiary objects were found at the scene, but two suspects were seen setting fire to the vehicle before fleeing on foot, according to the SPVM, which specifies that a car parked nearby was slightly damaged .
Given the criminal nature of the fire, the investigation was transferred to the SPVM’s arson section, while the scene was protected for investigators who will have to analyze it and try to determine the circumstances of this fire. .
Witnesses to the event were met by SPVM police officers and the vehicle had to be towed in order to undergo an expertise as part of the ongoing investigation, it was added.
