It was around 2:30 p.m. that the emergency services received a call about an unconscious man in the water. The man in his twenties is said to have jumped into cold water from a boat, before having difficulty swimming.

“The victim struggled in the water before losing consciousness. The person accompanying him tried to help him without success,” explained Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

It was the firefighters who finally managed to get the man out of the water and, quickly, resuscitation maneuvers were carried out, said Sergeant Tremblay.

The victim was then taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation has been opened to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this drowning.
