A recycling business in Northampton was hit by fire Monday morning, though responders from five fire departments had it out quickly.

It was reported shortly after 6 a.m. at CAP Glass Allentown LLC, 799 Smith Lane in the borough, according to Northampton fire Assistant Chief Andrew Marzen.

Material inside a silo caught fire, and the cause remained under investigation, he said.

The silo is used to collect non-glass from recyclables brought on site so the separated-out glass can be reused, Marzen explained.

He described it as “pretty simple job” to extinguish the fire. No one was reported hurt.

Crews had left the scene by about 8:50 a.m.
