Shock wave in the NFL: cornerback Jeff Gladney, 25, died in a car accident on Monday.

Gladney’s agent Brian Overstreet confirmed the news to NFL Network. The former Minnesota Vikings 2020 first-round pick recently signed a two-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

“We are devastated to learn of the passing of Jeff Gladney,” the Cardinals said in a statement. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those affected by this terrible news.”

Gladney didn’t play a game last season after being released by the Vikings ahead of the campaign. The Minnesota team had cut ties with the Texas native after he was charged with domestic violence. He was later acquitted and was set to make his Arizona desert debut in 2022.

“I lost my brother, my best friend, my trusted man…Rest in peace Jeff Gladney, watch over me my brother, please”, wrote on Twitter his ex-teammate Jalen Reagor, of the Philadelphia Eagles, with whom he played at Texas Christian University.

In his first and only season in the NFL with the Vikings, Gladney had 81 tackles, including seven for losses, in addition to knocking down three passes and forcing a turnover.
