CLEMENTON — The K-9 search team that helped find the body of a missing veteran reportedly won’t get the $6,000 reward his family crowdfunded online.
Lance James, 29, pictured in a U.S. Marine Corps photo, was found dead Jan. 13, 2017.
Lt. Lance James, a U.S. Marine veteran who served two tours in the Middle East, disappeared after getting into an altercation at a Clementon bar Dec. 2. His family raised money on a Gofundme page, which has since been shut down, saying that it was for any information that could directly lead to finding James.
Burlington County K-9 Search and Rescue, a volunteer group that sometimes helps locate missing people, searched for James for four days, two group members told 6abc.
They were the ones who found Lance’s body in Bottom Lake Jan. 13, the news station reported, but they will not get the $6,000 reward.
Family told 6abc that the reward was for information that could lead to James, not for the discovery of his body. They said they offered the K-9 group a lower amount, but the group members said they knew nothing about that.
The news station reported that the Gofundme money would help James’ daughter, 5, and pay for funeral expenses.
James’ sister told NJ.com that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and left the Marines in 2012, returning home to Clementon.
