The nor’easter hitting the Capital Region Thursday could bring up to a foot of snow, the National Weather Service reported.

Two to four inches of snow per hour is forecast for early Thursday morning, closing hundreds of schools, universities and day cares, NWS reports.

Road conditions and visibility will be hazardous during the morning commute.

The storm will bring widespread moderate to heavy snow to the region from early morning into the afternoon, NWS reports.

Six inches have already fallen at Albany International Airport, the weather service reported at 6:15 a.m.

Expect wins of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching 30 to 35 mph in the afternoon.

Cold and blustery conditions are forecast for tonight into Friday. An Alberta clipper will bring a light snowfall to the region Friday night into early Saturday.

Today: Snow, mainly before 2pm. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 26. North wind 9 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Tonight: A slight chance of snow showers between midnight and 4am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 9. Wind chill values as low as -2. Northwest wind 8 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday: A chance of snow showers, mainly after 5pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 24. Wind chill values as low as -5. Northwest wind 9 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday Night: Light snow likely, mainly after 7pm. Cloudy, with a low around 18. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday: A chance of snow showers before 1pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 1pm and 4pm, then a chance of snow showers after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 37. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: A slight chance of snow showers before 1am, then a chance of snow after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: A chance of snow before 10am, then a chance of rain and snow between 10am and 1pm, then rain likely after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Sunday Night: Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 1am. Low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Monday: A chance of snow showers before 10am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 10am and 1pm, then a chance of rain showers after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 38. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
