MADRID, 3 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has attacked the modification of the Urban Leasing Law, ensuring that it fully violates the consumer’s freedom of choice, since it obliges the payment of rent through electronic means, which means discrimination against 1.4 million people who are at risk of financial exclusion.
In a statement, OCU has recalled that the approved law for the right to housing requires the payment of rent through electronic means, although, exceptionally, it allows payment in cash, when one of the parties does not have a bank account or access to the aforementioned electronic means of payment.
“The limitation of the payment by cash of the income from the rental of housing contravenes the consumer regulations, the Civil Code and the Treaty of the European Union”, they have pointed out from the organization.
For this reason, they have sent a petition to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, as well as to the Ministry of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda, as promoters of the aforementioned regulations in order to “amend the established ban as soon as possible”.
