An officer was injured early Thursday while responding to a call of a man slumped over the wheel of a car in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood, police said. 

About 3:55 a.m., officers were responding to the 2300 block of South Hoyne Avenue for a call of a man slumped over the wheel of a car.

When officers arrived at the scene and tried to make contact with the driver, the motorist became startled and pressed on the gas pedal, police said. 

One of the officers was injured by the car’s door, police said. The officer was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital. 

Information about the motorist was not immediately available.
