An armed man died at the hospital Saturday after being shot by a Lake County deputy near the DeLand area.
The incident started about 6:30 p.m. when deputies were called to a home on Foxfire Lane for a well-being check, Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Fred Jones said.
When deputies were at the man’s front door, he picked up a gun and threatened the deputies, Jones said.
As authorities took cover, the man, who hasn’t been identified, started shooting from out his window toward neighbors who had gathered at the end of his driveway, Jones said.
He then walked outside and pointed his gun toward a deputy.
At least one deputy opened fire.
The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. He later died shortly later.
