Mark Edwards, 24, was caught by the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Crime Task Force Friday as he tried to flee from a cab, Police Director Jerry Speziale Said.

The shooting occurred on Sept. 27, 2016, when a 27-year-old man was shot on 12th Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard. The man arrived at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to that, Speziale said.

An investigation revealed Edwards was the alleged shooter.

After receiving a tip, detectives from the U.S. Marshals Service spotted Edwards Friday afternoon as he entered a cab on Park Avenue and East 19th Street, said Speziale. When detectives stopped the cab, Edwards tried to exit and flee on foot but he was immediately apprehended, Speziale said.

Edwards was charged with attempted murder and various weapons offenses.

“The investigators involved or tenacious in their pursuit of justice,” said Speziale. “Once again, they have removed a dangerous individual from our streets and will continue in our goal of making a safer city.”
