HOUSTON — New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett confirmed following Sunday’s 34-28 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI that he will not be accompanying his teammates on the celebratory trip to the White House hosted by President Donald Trump.

“I haven’t through about it since the game, but I’m not going to go,” Bennett said after the game at NRG Stadium.

When pressed about why he would be giving the President the stiff-arm, Bennett says that his thoughts on the President can be found on his Twitter account.

“I feel like right now I”m just trying to enjoy this. But, it is what it is. People know how I feel about it. Just follow me on Twitter.”

Here’s a sampling of some of Bennett’s thoughts on Trump, via his Twitter account:

America was built on inclusiveness not exclusiveness.

Bennett has been a staunch critic of the 45th President and it is not a surprise that the former Giants tight end is sticking to his pledge that he made on Super Bowl Opening Night to forgo the White House visit.

In addition to his tweets, Bennett was seemingly making a point by wearing a NASA hat to Super Bowl opening night. The Houston native expressed concern about the space agency’s future after Trump effectively issued a gag-order on social media for government agencies when it comes to tweeting anything not approved by the President.

It will be interesting to see if any of Bennett’s teammates follow suit and take a pass on the celebratory visit to the People’s House given the strong ties that Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have with Trump.
