The Altamonte Police Department is investigating a string of about 70 car burglaries throughout the Altamonte Springs area Tuesday morning, deputies said.
A witness called police around 4:30 a.m. and said he saw two young men breaking into vehicles at Lotus Landing Apartments in the 600 block of Coral Glen Loop. The men smashed front and rear windows to gain access to the vehicles, police said.
Officers spotted a black Kia leaving the apartment complex soon after they arrived on the scene. Before they could apprehend the suspects, they abandoned the car and fled on foot, police said.
The Kia was recovered by police and returned to its owner.
Anyone with more information on this crime or other burglaries should contact the Altamonte Springs Police Department at 407-339-2441 or Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
