CINNAMINSON — As authorities continue to investigate pro-Ku Klux Klan fliers found at some Burlington County homes Sunday, police officials add that they aren’t aware of any local hate groups who could possibly be behind the leafleting.

Cinnaminson police Lt. Tim Young said Monday that his department is investigating the handful of KKK recruitment fliers as a “bias incident,” per state attorney general’s office guidelines.

“Even the phone number attached wasn’t from our area,” Young said of the phone number that was on the fliers, which also read, “Love your race” and “Stop homosexuality and race mixing.”

According to previous reports, New Jersey police departments are required to report bias crime data to the state and the state subsequently to the FBI.

N.J. has 4th largest number of hate groups in U.S.

The flier were found along Lenola Road, in Cinnaminson, and South Boulevard Avenue, in Maple Shade. A pre-recorded message that played to callers who dialed the number on flier indicated that they’d reached the “loyal white knights” of the KKK.

Maple Shade police did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment.

Young said that the fliers found in Cinnaminson didn’t appear to target specific individuals or residents. However, authorities were investigating it as if that were the case should additional investigation reveal the alleged distributor was going after certain people.

Further, Young said Monday that he wasn’t aware of any local hate groups who could be behind the incident. The Southern Poverty Law Center’s annual survey of national hate groups found a “racist music” distribution label located in Maple Shade and alleged skinhead chapter in Haddon Township, Camden County.

The Southern Burlington County NAACP released a statement Sunday condemning the fliers. While chapter Vice President Jeanetta Warren could not immediately offer additional comment Monday, the group’s statement condemned the message from anonymous “hateful people.”

How would you react? Some neighbors in Cinnaminson are finding these KKK fliers in their driveways. I’ll have the story tonight @CBSPhilly. pic.twitter.com/SKfw6G8ns7
