EVESHAM TWP. — A man and woman were arrested after allegedly carelessly driving with a toddler in the backseat and drugs in the vehicle, police said.

On Jan. 31, just after noon, an Evesham detective saw a vehicle being carelessly driven with a improperly secured child in the backseat, police said. The detective followed the vehicle which was stopped by officers near N. Maple Avenue and Greentree Road. During the stop, the occupants, Michael Burke and Katie Cashman, allegedly gave officers conflicting and false information leading police to investigate further.

Evesham Police brought in the K-9 unit which helped police find heroin and hypodermic needles in the vehicle, they said.

Burke, 25, of Marlton, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of heroin, fugitive from justice, and a disorderly persons offense for possession of hypodermic needles and hindering.

Cashman, 24, of Barrington, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of heroin, and a disorderly persons offense for possession of hypodermic needles and hindering.

Both Burke and Cashman had numerous additional warrants for their arrests and were taken to Burlington County Jail.

Family members came to care for the child, police said.
