A 28-year-old Forest Grove woman was killed in a head-on crash on a snow-covered road in Washington County Sunday afternoon, officials said.

Around 2 p.m., Nichele Brook Akers was traveling southbound in a Chrysler van on Highway 47 near milepost 85 just south of the city of Banks, Oregon State Police said in a news release.

The van crossed into the northbound lanes and collided with a Ford truck driven by Joseph Poetter, a 35-year-old Banks resident. Also in the truck were Heather Poetter and three children.

Akers died at the scene, police said. All five people in the truck were transported to OHSU Hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the crash was underway, police said, but it appeared that snow and ice on the road played a role in the crash.
