TRENTON — A Trenton woman allegedly involved in a drug deal led police on a 10-minute chase early Monday.

Wanda Santiago, 39

Street Crimes Unit supervising Sgt. Jason Astbury was patrolling the area of Chambers Street and Greenwood Avenue just before 2 a.m. when he saw what he believed was a drug deal between a man and a woman, police said.

Astbury drove around the block to get a better view when he saw the involved car pass him in the opposite direction with no headlights on, police said.

The chase began when he tried to pull her over, but the driver, 39-year-old Wanda Santiago, refused and kept driving.

During the pursuit, police say Santiago intentionally struck a marked patrol car at the corner of Monmouth and East State streets, drove on a sidewalk and went the wrong way down a one-way street, among other things.

The chase eventually ended in the area of Gladstone and South Cook avenues when the car’s tires became flat, police said.

The Ford Focus was found to be stolen out of Hamilton, police said.

Santiago, who had several active warrants, was taken into custody. She was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, receiving stolen property, eluding an officer and a half-dozen motor vehicle offenses.
