The next season of “La Voix” was launched this Thursday, with the opening of pre-auditions at MELS Studios in Saint-Hubert, in Longueuil. Host Charles Lafortune and several former participants came to welcome the candidates who had come to try their luck.

Charles Lafortune did not hesitate when he was asked to return to hosting “La Voix”. “It was not a questioning for me, I would not have let anyone animate in my place, he explained, laughing. Finding myself among the candidates for the pre-auditions gives me a big smile. And when I see the old ones again, I always have a little nostalgia.

Returning to the feverish atmosphere of “La Voix” reminded Geneviève Jodoin, winner of the 2019 season, of her own pre-audition. “I had almost put on a hat and a mustache because I was not sure of myself, she told the QMI Agency. I played a lot during this day, I did not really know where it was going to lead me, but it was finally a good idea.

The winner of the last season, Josiane Comeau, was also present, as well as Félix Lemelin, participant of the 2018 season, who has just released his first album.

Diversity of artists

At the time of our visit to the MELS studios, Thursday noon, many candidates were waiting their turn, but there was no queue. Some had come with a relative or friends, others simply accompanied by their guitar.

Eadsé (Anne-Marie Gros-Louis Houle, her real name) had brought her traditional drum. “I think I can be a voice for indigenous communities, and I also want to send messages, she said. I also want to prove to myself that I am capable of performing on this big stage.”

The Wendat singer has taken part in several pre-auditions for “La Voix” and “Star Académie” in the past, but the birth of her two children, 10 months apart, upset her plans. “Today I decided to do a song of my composition that talks about my grandfather, who was also a singer, with my traditional drum. I would say my style is a hybrid between pop and traditional, with soulful colors running through it all. In my opinion, it is with this diversity that we will be able to emerge and have a voice.”

A Quebecer who grew up in the United States, Jacques Larin knows the backstage of TV very well, since he had the chance to participate in “Star Académie” last winter. He was unfortunately one of the candidates who was not drafted during the first Variety.

“I had a lot of fun at “Star Académie”, regardless of the result, he confided. I wanted to participate in something similar again, if it is still possible. I also like to sing, it is part of my dreams to earn a living by singing, but I would say that it is above all a “fun” experience.

In view of the next season with Corneille, Marjo, Mario Pelchat and Marc Dupré as coaches, the pre-auditions for “La Voix” will continue until June 5, at Studios MELS Saint-Hubert, before settling in Quebec City, from June 9 to 12, at the Hôtel Plaza Québec.
