A success by Xavier Simoneau in the final moments of the third period allowed the Charlottetown Islanders to win 3-2 against the Sherbrooke Phoenix on Sunday at the Palais des Sports Léopold-Drolet.

The Prince Edward Island team took a 2-1 lead in this semi-final series of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Taking advantage of a power play, Simoneau recovered a generous throwback to outsmart goalkeeper Jakob Robillard. It was the fourth goal of the hope of the Montreal Canadiens in the present playoffs.

On the winning net, Patrick Guay got an assist and brought his total points to three in this duel. The 20-year-old veteran scored the other two goals for the winners.

The replica of the Phoenix came from the sticks of Stéphane Huard fils and Tyson Hinds. The crowd favorites were never ahead during this game.

In front of the Islanders’ cage, Francesco Lapenna repelled 28 of his opponents’ 30 shots. At the other end of the rink, Robillard concluded his day of work with a total of 30 saves.

The two teams will meet again on Monday evening for the fourth duel of their series. This duel will also be presented in Estrie.
