MADRID, 22 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, has assured that the French Government’s proposal to create a minimum fare on airline tickets to fight against social and environmental dumping “has to be analyzed” for its impact on each country.
In statements to the press before the holding of the informal ministerial meeting on Transport, which brought together around twenty ministers from the European Union (EU) in the modernist venue of Sant Pau in Barcelona, Sánchez indicated that the economic impact that this measure can have in each country and has predicted that for the moment no conclusion will be reached.
Sánchez has pointed out that this is a measure that “must be analyzed” and has recalled that the airline sector is liberalized.
Last August, the French government justified the need to tax polluting activities to invest in the ecological transition. For this reason, he was going to propose to his European counterparts the creation of a minimum fare for airline tickets.
This proposal would be a new step for the French country in its fight against climate change in the aviation sector, since it recently banned regional flights when there is an alternative by train lasting less than two and a half hours, affecting air links between Nantes, Bordeaux, Lyon and Paris-Orly.
