The Minister for Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, has defended efficiency in public spending, ensuring that train stations cannot be built “without users and in the middle of nowhere”.

During his participation in the I Infrastructure Forum of ‘El Economista’, Sánchez insisted that what is necessary now is to “make all the investment made profitable and emphasize efficiency, safety and sustainability”.

“I don’t want to be misunderstood, I’m not talking about stopping investing in any case, but doing it with your head, not improvising multimillion-dollar disbursements that condition future generations. I’m talking about not building airports without planes, I’m talking about not planning radio stations crazy whose bills we are paying today. We cannot build train stations without users in the middle of nowhere as the previous government did,” he added.

According to the minister, the future mobility law “will declare unpredictability incompatible with the planning of large public works.”

In this context, Sánchez pointed out that the only mode of transport capable of ensuring “sustainability, cohesion and progress” is the railway, an area in which the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan will allow action on more than 800 kilometers of commuter lines , more than 1,500 kilometers of the network of the Mediterranean and Atlantic corridors and almost 1,000 kilometers of trans-European networks not included in these corridors.

All these actions seek to double the modal share of passengers and goods until they are placed on the horizon of the year 2030 at 12% and 10%, respectively.
