The ‘startup’ proposes “an immersive experience that seeks to improve the passenger experience and optimize Renfe’s internal management

MADRID, 7 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Renfe has chosen the BIM 6D company, which creates and manages digital models of buildings and infrastructure linked to databases, to respond to the ‘Metaverse in mobility’ challenge, one of the challenges posed by its startup accelerator TrenLab in its V call.

The search for the most promising projects in the mobility sector to promote technological innovation in the field of rail transport has followed a bidding process based on a project competition model, one for each area of work proposed in the challenges of the V TrenLab Call.

The selected startups have the opportunity to get a contract of up to one million euros if the winning project develops positively with Renfe, as reported by the public rail transport company.

The first to be chosen is BIM 6D, a digitization company based in Barcelona that has extensive experience in the AECO sector (architecture, engineering, construction and operations).

BIM 6D develops projects for buildings and infrastructure using CAD, 2D, 3D and BIM (Building Information Modeling) technologies. Through BIM technology, create and manage digital models of buildings and infrastructure linked to databases.

It proposes “an immersive experience aimed at improving the passenger experience and optimizing Renfe’s internal management”, as explained by the public company, which has indicated that BIM 6D is capable of creating virtual trains and stations and digital twins of the entire railway infrastructure. , as well as connecting users with their avatars along routes and railways (in the present, recreating the past and imagining the future).

“Through three-dimensional travel models and virtual experiences, its technology opens up possibilities for profound transformations, for example, in the way people relate to transportation,” he added.

Renfe maintains that, through this experience of direct and two-way connection with its users in the metaverse, it will be able to know their needs, communicate with them and help them make their experience as effective and satisfactory as possible.

Within the framework of its commitment to innovation, the company aims to “be at the forefront of the European railway sector by exploring the possibilities of the metaverse applied to the mobility sector, seeking to develop the first use cases applied to transport with the aim of examining its potential and evaluate the balance between the physical and virtual worlds.

As noted, the metaverse is expected to have a direct influence on all sectors in the coming years and the global market size will be $824.53 billion in 2030, according to a report by Verified Market Research. And, according to a study by Ipsos, Spain is the European country where its population is most familiar with the metaverse.

For this reason, Renfe seeks to “anticipate the changes and possibilities of this disruptive trend” and be aligned with some of the most prominent players in railway innovation thanks to the implementation of the metaverse, as Deutsche Bahn in Germany or the company have already done. MTR subway station in Hong Kong.

The startups chosen to participate in the V TrenLab Call will access a personalized acceleration program and will be able to have up to 50,000 euros to develop a pilot of their project.

In addition, they will have access to the main investors and will become part of the TrenLab ecosystem, where they will be advised for six months by experts, having direct contact with the business areas and companies of the Renfe Group.

With this award, the process of resolving challenges for the fifth TrenLab call begins. For this edition, in addition to the scope of the metaverse, solutions were sought for the challenges of ‘Digitization of security systems’, ‘Green transportation’, ‘Training with virtual reality’, ‘Industry 5.0’ and ‘Fleet optimization’.

Trenlab is Renfe’s global startup acceleration program and an open innovation space in the mobility, transportation and logistics sector. In this laboratory, Renfe’s business units work with startups and entrepreneurs to develop truly innovative projects with immediate application and to jointly generate business opportunities.
