The 18th racket in the world ended a 1h 55min duel with his second match point on the return.

If the meeting required three sets, Fernandez could well have ended the clash much earlier. Indeed, she came from behind to return to equal service at the end of the middle frame before suffering another break.

Facing the 28th player in the world, Fernandez struggled on serve, winning just 59% of rallies with her first serve and 50% with her second. She compensated, however, by winning 66% of the points when Anisimova needed her second ball.

Fernandez will now face Italian Martina Trevisan (59th) in the quarters. This will be the first confrontation between the two women.
