A Royal Caribbean cruise remained docked at Port Canaveral on Tuesday after Coast Guard inspectors found safety issues on board the ship, a spokesman said.

The issue was discovered Monday during a routine annual safety check aboard the Majesty of the Seas, a Coast Guard spokesman said. He did not say exactly what the problem was, but said it had to do with the life-saving equipment on board, not the ship’s engine.

Royal Caribbean released a statement Tuesday morning saying the Coast Guard “came across some technical issues, including some outdoor life jackets that were showing their age.”

“We hope to have replacements join the ship today and we expect to address the other issues shortly,” the statement reads.

A spokeswoman did not say what the other issues are, or if they are safety-related.

The ship was scheduled to leave Port Canaveral on Monday, but was held overnight after the issues were found.

Coast Guard officials said they will not allow the ship to leave until they are fixed. Royal Caribbean anticipates that happening later today, the spokeswoman said.

“Once they address the issues, we’ll send a team to check that the issues have been fixed and then they’ll be on their way,” Petty Officer 3rd Class Ryan Dickinson said Monday night.

On Twitter, the company apologized to some of the delayed guests and asked for patience.

The ship was scheduled for a four-night sailing, with stops in CocoCay and Nassau in the Bahamas, the spokeswoman said. It’s unclear if the schedule will be altered to accommodate the overnight stay in Port Canaveral.

“We won’t know the impact to the itinerary until we know when the ship will depart,” she said.

The Majesty of the Seas, an 880-foot-long, 106-foot-wide vessel, can typically carry 2,767 guests and a crew of 912, according to a company fact-sheet. Its maiden voyage was in 1992.
