Saint-Gobain has signed a long-term power purchase agreement or PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) with Endesa, specifically eleven years, which will begin in 2024 and will cover around 55% of Saint-Gobain’s electricity needs. -Gobain in Spain.
The electricity supplied by Endesa Energía associated with the PPA will be 100% renewable (wind, photovoltaic or hydraulic), supporting the commitment of both companies to the environment and sustainability, as reported by the company.
With this agreement, Endesa Energía will supply Saint-Gobain with 150 GWh of renewable energy per year, which is equivalent to supplying some 43,000 Spanish homes with renewable energy in one year.
Specifically, the alliance benefits the facilities that Saint-Gobain has in Spain: in Asturias, Cantabria, the Community of Madrid, Guadalajara, Segovia, Tarragona and Zaragoza.
In addition, it will reduce CO2 emissions by 39,000 tons per year, which is equivalent to the absorption capacity of 2.6 million trees in one year.
This announcement follows Saint-Gobain’s recent signing of two major renewable electricity supply agreements in Poland and North America, increasing the share of renewable electricity to more than 60% for the entire Group.
It follows the recent approval by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) of the Group’s greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in line with the organization’s new Net-Zero Standard and the Paris Climate Agreement. .
